This ambitious landspeed record involving the use of a specially engineered supersonic vehicle from the UK is scheduled to take place at Hakskeenpan in the third quarter of 2015. The pan is about 265km from African Vineyard via Upington.

German engineering firms have been using the long, straight road north of Upington to test their high-speed vehicles for some time, but now there’s an annual event aimed specifically at speedsters. Kalahari Speedweek is for petrol heads who want to put their vehicles through their paces in the vast spaces of this area.

The Green Kalahari Canoe Marathon is a challenging three-stage race from Upington to Augrabies held each year in August.

Kalahari Augrabies Extreme Marathon

Kalahari Augrabies Extreme Marathon

Strictly for the ultra athlete, this solo race sees participants tackling 250km over six legs in seven days. They carry all their own supplies and survival equipment. With temperatures soaring up to 40 Deg C at times, and tough terrain, participants can expect to be challenged to the limit.
